Colonial Williamsburg Christmas

Bayberry is a fragrant was whose scent I recall from childhood. On Christmas Eve we would wrap up bayberry candles and give them to our neighbors to burn on New Year's Day for luck. No one every reported back, but it's a tradition I remember even now, 40 years later. Bayberry is actually a wax and it was used during colonial times to add fragrance to holiday households.
